The University of Tehran has always been concerned about initiating the new domains of knowledge and upholding the academic mainstream in conformity with high standards of the world while taking the advantage of the capacity of our own enriched culture. In this regard, the University of Tehran has done great effort to take serious steps and tangible actions to open up a new domain concerning peace and conflict resolution which is unprecedented in its kind in Iran. We had always acknowledged the importance of security and how it has always been the most fundamental requirement of the entire mankind for a happy and prosperous life.

Peace and peaceful coexistence are the prerequisites to realize the sustaining security, while the conflicts have been nurturing the violence, wars have been exacerbating the people`s life and turning it into a real dilemma. Thus, the felicitous welfare in the contemporary world won’t be achieved unless sustainable peace and security are guaranteed.

We believe then, the academicians and social activists have the mission to take a more responsible approach to consolidate peace and resolve the conflicts. Hereby, the Faculty of World Studies, University of Tehran, aims to establish the Center of Peace and Conflict Studies in the near future. In the meantime, we are about to initiate a post-grad Programme on Peace and Conflict Resolution, which will be the first of its kind in Iran, aiming to advance the academic path to building a safer world for the future generations.

The University of Tehran also held the first International Conference on Peace and Conflict Resolution (ICPCR), on 29th and 30th of April at the faculty of the World Studies, which brought scholars and experts on the issue together, providing a vibrant forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on this vital issue. ICPCR had a multidisciplinary approach, with a focus on the discipline of peace and conflict resolution studies. The call for papers was broadly defined to include a vast array of issues and approaches to peace and conflict resolution.

Reaching a broader understanding of concepts and theories and providing innovations in the theoretical field, and practical solutions for conflict resolution were the main goals that the conference aimed to achieve. In addition, ICPCR tended to make an efficient network of experienced experts and interested young scholars in order to bring forth their genius ideas and produce constructive academic literature in peace and conflict resolution. We are seeking to keep up with our objectives through the annual conference on Peace and Conflict Resolution, the International Center on Peace and Conflict Resolution, and the new discipline on Peace and Conflict Studies.
